What’s cool about this whole “raising other humans” thing is watching the evolution of learning. My kid has gone from thinking I’ve literally disappeared from behind my hands to writing actual words. Her penmanship leaves a lot to be desired and that damn lower case “q” is tough, but we’re halfway to Hemingway.
She’s also figuring out life’s shortcuts (that’s my girl!), which is certainly expediting the literary process. Case in point, she now asks Alexa how to spell words. No dictionary or Google for this kid. “Alexa, spell ‘fart’ and ‘butt.’” Fantastic.
But we can run into issues sometimes if we don’t properly pronounce words. My oldest daughter Saoirse has a bit of a Boston Southie Elmer Fudd accent going on at this age, and some terms can be tricky. We recently asked her to schedule a week of activities once she was off from school.
The results were perfect.
It’s a surfer’s dream. A halfpiper’s paradise. The order of events is also outstanding. It encourages physical activity, as well as unencumbered entertainment. Four day work weeks might be all the rage in Europe, but I think this schedule has a lot of upside. Yeah, she probably meant reading books to further advance our intelligence, but this is way more fun.
